One of fine places of our native land, beried in verdure, ancient Sheki has more than 2600 years history. As asserts historians word "Sheki" is connected to name of a tribe Shak living on this territory from ancient times.

Living in X century, under the description of one of Arabian travelers Al-Muvaddasina Sheki is located on height of 500-800 m above the level of world ocean, on border of a subtropical zone, in a southern part mountain of the Big Caucasus.

Thill XVIII century, it is not far from Sheki in the East there vas village Nukha.  Strong act of nature having place in 1772 in the river Kish, has destroyed Sheki, he was transferred on the territory of the village Nukha. Thus, 200 years Sheki was called Nukha. Ancient name Sheki was returned in 1968. After resettlement on the former places it was constructed Sheki’s tower Narinqala.

Alexander Djuma (father) in the novel "Caucasian travel" writes: "When we left from Nukha, before our look she appeared even more perfectly and more beautifully". A.S.Pushkin’s friend, Russian general M.M. Raevski in the letter written 1826 specified that, "Nukha beautiful is Bakhchasaray on a high level". Admired not repeating Sheki’s monuments of culture Nazim Khikmet wrote: "If in Azerbaijan there wasn’t  be other ancient structures, it is enough to show  world Sheki’s "Khan’s palace"/ Well-known Indian scientist, rector of Dehli University, professor Munis Raza having shown admiration of beauty of city, has told: "The nature of Sheki reminds me southern hills of my native land The Himalayas".
